SAICM: Bureau member for ICCM2

Dear madam/sir

I believe that you are well prepared for the Second International
Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM2), to be held in Geneva,
Switzerland on 11-15 May. As you are aware, the registration deadline
was Monday 9 March. If you have not submitted registration forms for
participants from your government, I strongly recommend that you
submit them as soon as possible, although it may be too late for
travel assistance already. Also, you will find many of the meeting
documents already on the SAICM website, http://www.saicm.org, so I
recommend that you review them and develop your national positions in
consultation within your government.

The purpose of this e-mail message is to identify candidates for the
bureau member for the ICCM2 from this region. As you will find from
the annotated provisional agenda for the meeting, in item 2b on the
provisional agenda, the participants will be invited to elect five
officers, a president and four vice-presidents, for the meeting. These
five officers will form a bureau for the meeting for the efficient
conduct of the meeting. I have been invited by the SAICM Secretariat,
as regional focal point, to conduct regional consultation to identify
a candidate for the bureau member from this region. Formally speaking
the consultation should be done among the representatives from Asia
Pacific governments, but since the national focal points are expected
to facilitate the communication and consultation within the
governments, I seek your views on the identification of our bureau
member.

As a first step, I would invite any suggestion from you about possible
candidates, especially an intention to volunteer as a bureau member.
If your governments are represented by officials at considerably
senior level, such as ministerial or vice-ministerial level, I feel
that your governments are in a very good position to occupy a bureau
seat. I expect your response as soon as possible, but I would set a
tentative deadline on Tuesday 31st March. After receiving your
response, I will come back to you with a further proposal.

Best regards,

Eisaku Toda
